Photographic evidence

This is a new segment I'm doing, where I show photos I took during residency in order to prove that I'm not making shit up in my cartoons:

When I was doing clinics at the VA, usually I would come in first thing in the morning, and the examining rooms looked like they had been ransacked during the night:

(Yes, that is, in fact, a dirty pillow lying next to the computer.)

Gosh, I wonder who might be responsible for keeping things clean:

Oh, I guess it's me. Obviously, the responsibilities of a resident include not just patient care, but also some light janitorial work.

  1. All it needs is a few Coors cans, half eaten food from Taco Bell, and some used condoms.

  2. You mean you don't see the condoms on the pillowcase? ;)

  3. Wow, that's.. basically what I did as a hospital volunteer. Something to look forward to.

  4. Just wait until you start getting comments about how arrogant you are because you think you're *above* doing janitorial work....

  5. OMDG, when I was quite pregnant, I asked the clinic receptionist if she could reach down and get me a new roll of tissue paper for the examining room table, because I physically couldn't do it. She refused to even get out of her seat and angrily told me that doing that wasn't her job. (Her job, apparently, being to sit there and talk on the phone to her friends all day.)

  6. What, you think you're ABOVE bending down and getting a roll of tissue paper? Just another doctor who thinks she's better than everyone else.

    Sheesh.

  7. OMDG, you're probably getting that reaction from people because they expect you, as an adult, to clean up after yourself.

  8. My first thought was that I hope I won't be doing the same residency you did. My second thought was that it doesn't matter b/c there'll likely be a steady stream of equally ridiculous things. So, um, did you do your residency on the East Coast?

  9. ME-OW, Jules. Who says I ever got that reaction?

  10. I'm sorry, I was mostly kidding :)

  11. I am a 3rd year med student, & I also take photos to prove that I am not making stuff up. Check out the "Microwave Drama" that occurred during my Psych Rotation. =) http://amusingmd.blogspot.com/2010/08/funny-microwave-drama.html

  12. I'm pretty sure this is why I want nothing to do with the VA.
