err... so what exactly is brain fart? hahaha =)
I use that term all the time.Neurogastroenterologist eh? So you put a scope in their ears to look for brain polyps.
Oh, I did worse once. I was socializing with a gyn onc and a reproductive endocrinologist once. We had had a few drinks and they were being a little crude, so I referred to the transvaginal ultrasound as the "dildo cam", which is a very, very common term among women who have had to suffer through one, and among health care practitioners who talk about them. The RE, who uses a dildo cam all the time, didn't know what a dildo was. He wanted me to explain it to him. I wanted to crawl under a rock and die.
I was once draining abscesses in the OR with an attending and I got my needle in exactly the right spot, it started filling up with pus, and I exclaimed "MONEY SHOT!"Unfortunately, not only did the attending inform me that he did not want to hear that sort of language in the OR, the med student didn't know what that meant and kept on asking, so the attending said to me "you used the term, you explain it to her." I told her I would tell her later but he made me explain it in front of the OR.
Oh LOL! I remember my co-worker told one of our old GI doctors that he was the bomb. He asked us "Why do I have to be a bomb??" Sad to say we had to explain what being the bomb was.
@JessJess You know, I didn't realize that porn is the first thing people think of when they hear the term "money shot." Is it really?
"money shot" means something besides porn? That's the only context i know the term in. Geez, if I had known it meant something else, I would have had a much easier time explaining that to the OR :-P
Jess: Yeah, I don't automatically think of porn from "money shot." Maybe it's originally from porn, but it's been borrowed enough that I think it's acceptable to say in places like an OR. I bet that med student really knew what it was and was just messing with you :)
@JessJess, In that case, I [hope I] would have made something up, possibly involving basketball. At the very least the med student was socially inept if she asked about the meaning of the term after the attending vetoed its use in his OR.
