  5. 3rd years at my school frequently comforted 2nd years with the adage that everything would be "so much better!" once we shifted from the classroom to wards.

    I did PBL, so 3rd year was a rude awakening starting with the inflexibile schedule & invariably early mornings. Also, my curriculum took a nose dive from engaging high yield discussions of clinical cases & their basic science correlates to seeing 2 patients a day, discussing the wonders of constipation, and trying to keep my brain awake through low-yield and mostly passive learning. I was usually too tired to read when I got home.

    I'm amazed by how many of the Step 3 practice questions I correctly answer based on what I learned during my pre-clinical years...and how few come from experiences I had during years 3 & 4.
