Happy V-day!

I still remember that soon after I got married, my father said the following to me:

"I was reading yesterday that people in their late thirties are actually less depressed if they've been married and divorced than if they'd just stayed single. So I guess it's okay that you got married."

It's really nice when your parents approve of your choice to get married.

  1. When I was 26 (before I met my husband), right after a nasty breakup, my parents said to me, "OMDG, we really want you to get married, because when we die we want you to have someone who can take care of you."

    It was very uplifting.

  2. Oh my God, it's like you have my dad! Or my mom. When I was 23, after I'd already been with my current SO for about a year and we were getting serious, she sent me a packet of newspaper clippings. They were an article about "How to be a Happy Older Single Woman."

She also sent me "He's Just Not That Into You" (the book) shortly thereafter.

Dad, meanwhile, just keeps saying he can't get excited about my wedding or pretend to be excited about it, so why can't we just elope? (We've been together for going on five years now and have been engaged for a year.)
