An interview gone wrong

Me: "I think my residency prepared me well for this kind of job."

Interviewer: "So you did your residency in Maryland, right?"

Me: "Um, no."

Interviewer: "Wait, where did you go to med school?"

Me: "I went to the University of--"

Interviewer: "Maryland?"

Me: "I've never actually gone to any school in Maryland."

Interviewer: [disappointed] "Oh. So I guess I can't talk to you about crabcakes."

  1. Once, on a job interview, the guy wanted to talk to me about building canoes. I told him the closest I'd ever been was in a landing craft in the Marine Corps. I didn't get the job.

  2. "Um, I can talk to you about crabs. I once caught them, in a bathrooom at a Motörhead concert."

    1. Hush puppies are overrated, too. But if you go to just the right place for crabcakes and hushpuppies -- mmmmm. (It's in North Carolina.)

  6. Why would someone have to be from MD in order to discuss crabcakes? This is very confusing.
