I love making top 10 lists, so maybe this will be a new thing.
I love movies. I'm always the person who does really well at movie trivia games. But there are a few movies that I really love more than all the others, that I could just watch over and over and still think they're brilliant. It's hard to pare that list down to just 10, but I did it and here they are in alphabetical order:
1. Annie Hall
2. Austin Powers
3. Back to the Future
4. The Cable Guy
5. Clerks
6. Ghostbusters
7. Jurassic Park
8. Little Shop of Horrors
9. The Matrix
10. Pulp Fiction
There are some runners-up, which were on the list before I pared it down. Numbers 4 and 7 were particularly difficult to cut from my top 10, and even now I kind of still want them in there....
1. Fargo
2. Ferris Bueller's Day Off
3. Happy Gilmore
4. Office Space
5. The Great Muppet Caper
6. Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
7. Spaceballs
I like your top ten, I would have kept Ferris Bueller's Day Off
ReplyDeletein the top ten and found a way to get Fasttimes at ridgemont high on there.
I would have tried and end up removing The Breakfast Club
I couldn't make myself put Ferris in the top 10 just because it is SUCH a dumb movie. I love it and it's adorable and I quote it all the time, but it's definitely dumb.
DeleteI liked Fast Times, but I've only seen it once so I can't contemplate it being in my top movies. I didn't like the Breakfast Club at all.
I once had almost the entire movie Who Framed Roger Rabbit memorized. Line by line. I feel sorry for my parents for having to listen to it on the tv so many times!
ReplyDeleteThe crazy thing is that we own it and Mel loves it too! That movie has so many great lines, it's definitely worth memorizing. I think the one we quote most often is the shave and a haircut bit.
DeleteI could never understand why people love Fargo so much. I thought it was one of the top three worst movies ever made. I would rather watch Ishtar.
ReplyDeleteI think the awesomeness of the pregnant cop made the movie.... she's just so cool! And pretty much anything Steve Buscemi is in has to be good.
Delete"You're such a super lady"
Deleteomg, anon, I think that is the most bizarre and also awesome part of that movie :)
DeleteYou forgot The Princess Bride, but most of those are pretty good.
ReplyDeleteIf I were going to make a top 10 overrated movies list (but I probably won't b/c people didn't get super-excited about this one), The Princess Bride would be on. Maybe there's some point you need to see that movie in your brain development, and if you don't see it then, you won't "get" it. I didn't see that movie till I was in college and I don't "get" it. It wasn't bad, but I didn't love it.
DeleteIt's really great for drinking games.
DeleteI made a Roger Rabbit comment in school the other day, and none of the students had any idea who he was. Confirmed my old fogie in vet school status :(
ReplyDeleteWhat was it? I'm sure I would have known it, but I'm an old fogie too.
DeleteI said that a rabbit patient wasn't bad, she was just drawn that way. No one laughed except me and the faculty!
DeleteJessica Rabbit wasn't actually a rabbit, but still funny :)
DeleteI'm surprised Austin Powers is on there! I remember laughing really hard at it, but I was a kid then. I never re-watched it because I figured it would come across as dumb now, but maybe I should re-watch it.
ReplyDeleteFunnily enough, I didn't like the movie the first time I saw it (as a teenager). But on repeated watchings, I really love it.
DeleteOh wow, those movies are soooo old!!!
DeleteI think you need at least a decade to decide if a movie is one of your favorites. Also, once I got to medical school, I stopped having enough time to watch movies over and over, and grow to really love them.
DeleteAustin Powers. Enough said. I think I could watch the part where he's stuck in a golf cart between the two walls all day, every day. I used to come home from school and watch this with my sister and brother every day. (Where were my parents?? Oh right, we're crazy liberal...)
ReplyDeleteI love all the one liners after he kills the guy in the shark tank. "He'll never be the head of a major corporation."
DeleteI don't want to be "that guy" but do you enjoy any movies from before you were born? Do you like any independent movies?
ReplyDeleteBy "that guy", do you mean a movie snob?
DeleteThis isn't a comprehensive list of every movie I like... it's simply my absolute favorite movies of all time. But actually, there's both an independent movie and a movie that was made before I was born on that list. So 20% of my top 10 movies of all time fit your snooty qualifications.
I shouldn't have read this post. I'm taking Step 2ck in 2.5 days...
