Sweet innocent med student, my foot! More like, dumb, lazy, ostentatiously well rested, childless, better dressed, prettier-than-I-am, happier, AAAAAAHHHHHHH I HATE MY LIFE AND ALL MED STUDENTS SUCK!!!!!
When I was in med school, ALL the gyn residents were miserable and nasty. And there was one gyn-onc attending who had made all the gyn interns cry-even the men! She would never look at the person she was talking to or even use their name, so you did not know who she was talking to. The closest she came would be to say "the med student will suck now" when she needed suction in the OR.
"Tell the Med Student she is breathing wrong!" haha that is great. I seriously had something like that happen to me once while I was shadowing as a pre-med. The kid was right over the docs right shoulder looking as he removed a tumor from the womans throat and he had a retainer. The nurse was the one that said something though, not the doc. She knew the doc well I guess and could tell how pissed off he was. In that case though the guy did breath loud and slerpy like though. Great blog keep it up!
I remind my self daily that every where you go you will run into someone who is an asshole. My challenge is to be the superior person. But usually I just get even later on when they can't really do anything about it.
Gah, looks like a miserable experience. The Resident might have needed more sleep?
ReplyDeleteDon't we all??
DeleteNo she just needed to be a nicer person.

Medical student! Don't you EVER talk on a surgical service.

ReplyDeleteHaving rotated through that service, I can assure you that you are not alone.

ReplyDeleteAs a Pt., I tremble. How DOES a MD know how long to keep you? Obviously, they are not taught, so the insurance companies step in.
ReplyDeleteThe other common answer is: "Look it up!"
ReplyDelete(usually when the resident does not know the answer and is to proud to admit it)
You should have smacked her so hard her uterus fell out, or something.

ReplyDeleteUggggh. Sometimes I feel that I'll never ever specialise, simply because I don't want to be like THAT.
