The name of this blog is A Cartoon Guide to Becoming a Doctor. Back when I first started this blog about three years ago, my idea was to post cartoons I drew about medicine. I thought it would be a really fun blog. And for a while, I only posted cartoons.
Then I started running out of ideas for cartoons. So I started posting my stories about residency and sometimes my opinions. And those posts often got more comments and hits than the cartoons, and sometimes sparked interesting discussions.
Subsequently, I had another baby, and I just didn't have the time to draw lots of cartoons anymore. And I was sort of running out of fresh ideas.
These days, I try to post at least two cartoons every month, just to stay true to the name of the blog. But I still get complaints along the lines of:
"Hey, where are the cartoons?"
"The name of your blog is a lie."
"You should change the name of your blog."
"Yo, where's the cartoons?"
Yes, I get it. It's called A Cartoon Guide to Becoming a Doctor, and there aren't that many cartoons anymore. It's not like this was some kind of well thought out plan.
I don't want to change the name of my blog. I think there are enough cartoons in the archive that it's still a fair name. The only thing I'd consider changing it to would be The Blog Formerly Known as a Cartoon Guide to Becoming a Doctor. (And then it would eventually just become known as The Blog.)
I say keep it as is and tell the haters to go hate on another slice of the web. But if you want to change it, I vote for "Fizz it up"
ReplyDeleteHehehe.
ReplyDeleteOr maybe it could just be known as like ☿
Why are there no cartoons for this post?
ReplyDeleteYour blog is one of the several I read every day (Dr. Grumpy's blog turned me on to you, he's a daily read too). I wouldn't change a thing. Your posts are thoughtful, honest and well written. Your cartoons are awesome.
ReplyDeleteHaters gonna hate. Don't give in to them.
ReplyDeleteI don't always agree with you, and I rarely comment, but I have read every day for the past year, and read every one of the archives. Yes, I love the cartoons, but it is your blog. Do with it what you will. :)

ReplyDeleteLeave the haters to their hate
ReplyDeleteDon't listen to the complainers. Please don't change the name. When OMDG went private, I didn't discover her new blog until yesterday. Now, I've got close to 200 posts to read.
ReplyDeleteSorry about that.
DeleteHow do we get to your blog now, OMDG?I've always just gone from the link on this one, so thought you must've stopped posting or something
Delete(which I was a little sad about)
DeleteKeep the name, but make an icon link to all the cartoons in one place
ReplyDeleteWhere are the cartoons??? :(
ReplyDeleteJK, I'd rather you write a funny story than make an awful, unfunny cartoon.
The Blog.
ReplyDeleteResistance is futile.
The Doc Blog!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if there is "the dog blog".
...
I'll have to check.
The first thing that popped into my head was - don't change your name! Else how will people know that your book and your blog are related! :P
ReplyDeleteAlso, I guess your loyal readers (ahem... coughcough ;)) would know that this blog had a lot of cartoons and the history of this blog (yes, goodness me, I started following your blog back in the days of practically-all-posts-were-cartoons... goodness me, that makes ME feel old :P), but I can imagine for newcomers to come in and see the title 'A Cartoon Guide to Becoming A Doctor' and then seeing a whole lot of (sometimes controversial) text can make it seem like, 'WHOA this is all one big conspiratorious lie :O'. So I'd like to +1 the 'link to the cartoons' point. :)
Also, I have a personal attachment to the title of the blog since I have been following it for *that* long, and I don't really like change on personal-attachment things (yes this is your blog and yes I know I have no say, but sheesh!! :P) so yeah. I love your blog, cartoons and controversial posts alike, end of! :)
It's your blog. Handle it however you wish! Let the whiners create their own blog if they don't like it.
ReplyDeleteI was once dissed thoroughly on a radiology website (AuntMinnie.com) for having a particular opinion on some medical software. I complained to an older and much wiser friend. His response was classic:
"A lot of these folks making the postings suffer from a disease known as LDS, and I'm not talking about the The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints either. It's Little Dick Syndrome- where you have to make up for your "shortcomings" somehow so you mock on the first person who seems to know what the hell they are talking about. I live it every day."
'Nuff said. Keep up the good work!
