This is absolutely accurate. I'm graduating in a few weeks, and I am on my vacation weeks right now. I went running at 9am the other morning. It felt so incredibly early, but then I realized that on one of the ICU rotations I did earlier this year, I would have been working for 4.5 hrs already at that point. Intern year is going to hurt me!
Great cartoon. The only thing you are missing is the brain fart that happens every time an attending asks a question (that even a 2nd year would know the answer to).
Ok, stupid question ... in my fourth year of vet school, I was on clinic rotations and running around like a chicken with my head cut off; what is 4th year of med school like?
4th year of medical school tends to have a lot of elective and vacation time built in. The first half of the year is actually quite intense, because you're doing "audition" rotations and applying for residency. Once you've finished interviewing for residency in January, you can spend the rest of the year chilling out. Your supervisors understand that you have stage IV terminal senioritis and don't expect very much from you.
When doing OP PM&R, my fellow 4th year and I managed t get out before 10AM every day. During ICU rotation, we left by 11AM every day. I had the perfect partners in crime.
i can't waitttttttttttttttt... I am a 3rd year now and the 4th years have been making my blood itch all year! I distinctly remember being told by a then-4th year when I was a first year "4th year is awesome. I highly recommend you get here" and there the temptation began! Ah... only 2 months to go!
That is so me. I was complaining recently that an attending kept us until 4 pm rounding and how late that was. A 3rd year looked at me funny and suddenly I remembered last year how many times I was still rounding past 5 or 6. 4th year is freaking awesome.
I was in my community medicine rotation and my attending looked at me and said, "Oh wow, it's 3:30pm. That's like 7:30pm fourth-year time! Why are you still here?"
Oh how I miss fourth year.
ReplyDeleteOh so true. I'm going to miss this! -MS4
ReplyDeleteLook! A cartoon!
ReplyDeleteBut where are all the comments from the folks who *only* want you to draw cartoons on your blog???
So looking forward to 4th year - only 5 more weeks for me

Oh man I wish it was like this at my school. My final year was lots of getting to the hospital at 6 am...

ReplyDelete4th year of med school is a doctor's last long vacation...
ReplyDelete4th year of medical school is a dream.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, if you take it too easy that year it just makes intern year that much more of a shock.

ReplyDeleteHilarious, and very accurate :P
ReplyDeletePerfectly depicts the graduating 4th year students who rotate in my program! I don't feel jealous at all as I know what lies ahead for them...
