Ancient device

My husband was reading my toddler a Berenstein Bears book the other day. I heard the following exchange:

Toddler: "Doggy!"

Husband: "Right, that's a doggy."

Toddler: "Mama."

Husband: "Right, that's the mama."

Toddler: "Door."

Husband: "Right, that's the door."

Toddler: "What that?"

She was pointing to something that looked like this:

Husband: "That's a phone. That's what they used to look like."

  1. A couple of years ago, my young godson was reading a book and had to ask his mother what a "phone booth" was. He couldn't grasp the concept.
