President

Me: "Who is the President of this country?"

Patient: "Osama?"

Me: "Uh, not quite."

Patient: "Bin Laden, right?"

For the hundredth time, our President is not a dead terrorist. Geez.

P.S. If you missed out on buying The Devil Wears Scrubs for 99 cents, it's still discounted now to $1.99 until midnight tonight. It's this weird Kindle Countdown Deal thing.

  1. My middle child is still convinced that our president is Bahamas. It's almost too cute to correct him.

  2. Today when I asked a patient who is the president, I got "Obama...and that other guy..." Never did say who our co-president is.

  3. Well, his middle name is the same as several dead terrorists' and his first name is very similar to some terrorist groups (Al-Barakaat) and a few financiers with terrorist ties (Barak). I'd say the patient was pretty close...

    2. Oh dear God, Jasmine, your comment perfectly summarizes why this world will never get better. But I'm sure YOUR rationale as to why the world sucks so much is that it is all due to Obamacare.

    3. I am sure that would pretty much summarize every person in the world. if you start looking up, some criminal or other sure got your name, or a very similar name, etc.
Come on. I understand the Osama-Obama mistake, because many people make it and then realise and correct themselves... And this patient was probably not in good condition. But a person capable of using the internet and justifying this...

    4. Anon@4:46 - What a brilliant riposte! What a witty reply! It certainly shows the depth of *your* intelligence.
Anon@4:16 - Au contraire, your response shows exactly what all is wrong with the world: judgment, assumption, and hasty reaction. As Anon@2:37 also mentioned, it is reasonable that an uninterested/elderly/sick patient would easily confuse names, because Obama/Osama do sound similar (and his name *is* Hussein, as was Saddam's). Incidentally, Barak (the base of which means 'blessed') is also used by several terrorist-associated groups. Again, I don't think it's surprising or judgment worthy that a patient (someone with medical problems in the first place) would mix up names. And that was all I was trying to justify. But if my comment seemed only slightly inflammatory, well, it was; I love interacting with well-spoken, non-judgmental, informed, tolerant and intelligent persons of the liberal persuasion.

    5. And by the way, I am a proud Republican, which is another thing. Why, if people find what you said to be completely insane, do you automatically assume they are of the "liberal persuasion."

    6. I'd still say *you're* an idiot. It isn't a simple misunderstanding, it is a demonstration of both the inability and the unwillingness to discern the simplest details required to face reality. If you are a lucid adult and cannot separate our black president from a dead guy that had a beard and wore a turban, then perhaps you ought not throw stones regarding the depths of others' intelligence. Slightly different spelling is an atrocious excuse. I bet you don't french fry your tomatoes and try to make spaghetti sauce out of your potatoes. Your justifications are bad, and you should feel bad.

      Sincerely,
Someone without a depth of intelligence.
