Weekly Whine: Old Comments

Sometimes people find (likely via Google) an old post I made and start yelling at me in the comments. They write some long-winded reply, even though nobody is reading the post or the commments anymore.

If you do that, it's fine, but recognize that it's all masturbation. I'm probably just going to skim the comment if that, but I definitely won't reply. I'll probably publish it, but if the post is two years old, nobody else is going to read it.

Some people have too much time on their hands.

  1. That seems really unkind. People are engaging with your writing and taking the time to respond. It's obviously a new thing to them. People reading old stuff is part of what drives people to your site, where you can relentlessly peddle your book.

It's perfectly understandable that you don't feel moved to respond on a years-old thread, and requires to explanation. Why you would go the extra mile to insult your readers and commenters is less clear.

    1. Sheesh, it's her blog. She can promote her book all she likes, noone is making you read any of this. If she goes to the trouble of posting entertaining stories that i get to read for free, and which brighten my day, I'm not going to complain about her promoting her book. And I agree, commenting on a years old thread is a bit pointless.

    1. LOL! And you have to be really mad at me when you comment, preferably calling me a bitch or something.

  4. I'm archive binging at the moment, working my way backwards through the entries. It's entertaining, so thanks for all the laughs I've had so far.

I really don't have anything else to say, but I wanted to comment on this entry purely because the irony makes me chuckle (because I'm easily amused, I guess).
