Weekly Whine: Spam

Lately I have had a problem with emails being inappropriately labeled as spam.

I sent an email to my boss's assistant about the call schedule. Despite the fact that I have exchanged hundreds of emails with her over the years, the email went to her spam folder. Why?

And then more recently, an email I sent to my husband went to his spam folder. It goes without saying that I have sent him more than a few emails over the years, and I wasn't trying to sell him some illegal Viagra. (Or was I?)

On my end, all the emails for my daycare suddenly started going to the spam folder after having previously having been delivered to the correct place.

Best of all, an email from my mother somehow went into my spam folder. Granted, sometimes she sends me an excessive number of emails, but I'm not sure why Gmail suddenly decided that particular email was spam.

Gmail, what's up with your spam filter?

  1. Are any of these people using yahoo email addresses? I have found gmail sends them to spam.

  2. Interesting you should mention it as I had the same thing happen to me with yahoo.
It only happened once, but for the life of me I can't figure out why. I'm "scratching my
head" on this one. - Paul

  3. None of them were Yahoo addresses. And actually, since I wrote this, I missed an important email from a business correspondent who is arranging some Perdiem work for me because it went into my spam folder.

  4. If I'm not mistaken, with yahoo I'm able to pull "spam" back into my inbox.
Perhaps just changing to yahoo is the answer. Worth a shot?

  5. God no. I hate Yahoo. Anyway, I can pull messages into my inbox in Gmail. The problem is that I have to check my spam folder to make sure everything in it is actually spam.

  6. I have the same issue. Recently had a very important professional email go to spam. If I hadn't serendipitously found it when I did I would have been out $400. So now I check the spam box every couple of days.

  7. Try changing the password on your account. I had a bunch of emails that were randomly recycled for no reason but changing the password solved the problem
