I'm a big believer in buying generic brands of products. I don't understand why the generic isn't as good as the brand name. But sometimes... the brand names really are just better.
Like recently I bought some generic brand butter. And the butter was... weird. I couldn't detach it from the wax paper wrapping it. It was just an odd texture.
And I'm currently getting burned by some generic paper towels I bought. I'm beginning to realize that toilet paper and paper towels are two things that you CANNOT cheap out on. The generic paper towels were two-ply and I thought they'd be okay. Like the Sparkle commercial says, "Do you really need a paper towel that can hold a bowling ball?" No, but you need something that can clean up a tiny spill without using like ten paper towels. (Sparkle brand sucks too.)
While it isn't generic, I feel like Scott paper towels should be called out for the awfulness of their toilet paper. I didn't realize how bad toilet paper could be till I used Scott.
Ha! I love Sparkle brand paper towels. I absolutely hate VIVA. They are super think but leave lint crud everywhere! Never had a problem with sparkle. Scot toilet paper well they should just rebrand that as the best sandpaper money can by and sell it at the Home Depot. And Placebo's work for a lot of things, the mind is a mysterious thing.
ReplyDeleteAh yes, good old "Absorb Nothing" toilet paper, or as the package says "facial tissue."
ReplyDeleteScot toilet paper-- for when you want to feel like you're going to the bathroom at the hospital in the comfort and privacy of your own home.
ReplyDeleteWe buy the store brand TP and it's fine, but it's not the basic Scott AKA sandpaper level, it's the more upscale "quilted" knockoff. And for paper towels I buy the "select a size" mostly for my husband who uses them as napkins (I use regular dish towels for most cleaning and spill-blotting). Can't remember the brand though, maybe Bounty? Our store does have a knock-off select-a-size but I find it too flimsy.
ReplyDeleteWe buy Costco "generics". Kirkland brand paper towels. We buy a name brand TP, my husband's ass cannot have anything more rough than the feathers of an angel, apparently. I'm fine with kirkland brand TP.
ReplyDeleteWe grew up on Scott TP, or the store equivalent. Back then, all TP was fairly rough. Once they started making fluffy brands we never went back.
Got to agree about the TP, we used to call ones like Scott TP John Wayne, cos its rough, tough, and takes no **** of anyone. Thank the lord you can get softer stuff now
ReplyDeleteMy wife is allergic to all forms of TP EXCEPT Scott. We didn't know she had an allergy when she moved in with me when we got married. All we knew is after 2 weeks of living together and acting like newlyweds she had a painful rash and we honestly were scared that she might be allergic to "sexy time".
ReplyDeleteIf you have a Costco membership, go with the Kirkland brand paper towels and TP. Good quality and cheap.
ReplyDeleteHei, fully agree bad paper towels are awful.
